The event will be held in South Florida for the first time ever. Miami was supposed to host the All-Star Game in 2000, but MLB pulled it due to then-owner H. Wayne Huizenga looking to sell the team and build a baseball-only park following a 1997 World Series victory.
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred had the following to say, as noted in an article by George Richards of the Miami Herald.
“The All-Star Game is not just a game,” he said. “It’s a week-long celebration of the game of baseball, filled with fun community activities everyone in Miami can be involved with. I know Miami will be a great All-Star host and we can’t wait to get here next summer.”
The 2017 MLB All-Star Game will played at Marlins Park on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, with other events leading up to game day.
The on-field unveiling can be seen below.
